Question: How long is the trial period?
Answer: The trial (demo) period is 15 days.

Question: How is the upgrade-version different from the normal version of ABBYY Lingvo x3?
Answer: ABBYY Lingvo х3 Upgrade is a standard full-functional version available with a discount for registered users of  ABBYY Lingvo 11 and ABBYY Lingvo 12. To activate the upgrade-version, you need the serial number from the previous version you were using. This serial number will be blocked during activation.

Question: I have installed ABBYY Lingvo x3. Is it possible to buy a more complete version with a discount? For example, can I upgrade ABBYY Lingvo x3 English Edition to ABBYY Lingvo x3 European Edition with a discount?
Answer: ABBYY Lingvo x3 doesn't have the upgrade functionality. However, you can purchase and install additional dictionaries.

Question: Why is installation on mobile devices unavailable in ABBYY Lingvo x3?
Answer: The ABBYY Lingvo x3 product line now includes a separate version for mobile devices – ABBYY Lingvo x3 Mobile. It is also supplied together with the multilingual version of ABBYY Lingvo x3, but not with other versions.

Question: Why is activation necessary?
Answer: ABBYY Lingvo x3 must be activated to switch from trial (demo) mode to full-functional mode. The program will work for only 15 days without activation.

Question: How do I activate ABBYY Lingvo x3?
Answer: The Activation Wizard shall start automatically prompting you to activate the program. If it doesn't happen, select Help–>Activate Dictionaries… and follow the Activation Wizard's instructions.

Question: What is the difference between registration and activation?
Answer: Registration allows users to receive free technical support and information on updates, new versions, and other products. If you lose the serial number, it can be restored with your registration data. Besides, registered users can receive discounts on new versions of ABBYY products (if such discounts are available).
Activation is necessary to  switch the program to full-functional mode.

Question: When I start the program,  the message " The licence <licence SN> is already in use by the user <user name> on the workstation <computer name>" appears, and the program won't work. Why does this happen?
Answer: This message appears if there are two computers in the local Intranet running ABBYY Lingvo x3 with the same serial number. To solve the issue, you must reactivate ABBYY Lingvo x3 on one of the computers using another serial number. To do it:
1) Start ABBYY Lingvo x3 on one of the computers.
2) On the top menu, select Help>Licences…
3) In the window that opens, select the licence name and click "Remove".
4) Close the program (Translate>Exit).
5) Start ABBYY Lingvo x3 again and activate it using the a new serial number.

Question: When I start the program, the message "MSXML4 component not found…" appears. What should I do?
Answer: Download the MSXML 4.0 component from the Microsoft website (www.microsoft.com) and install it.
If the situation persists, do the following:
1) Open the Start menu and click "Run". If the "Run" item doesn't appear in the Start menu, hold the Windows button on your keyboard and press R.
2) Copy the following command to the command line:
regsvr32.exe c:\Windows\System32\msxml4.dll
3) Click ОК.

Question: Some of the Russian and Spanish words in ABBYY Lingvo x3 voiced incorrectly. Can it be corrected?
Answer:  Yes, please download and install the update.

Question: When I start the program, the message "The following dictionary files have not been found:" appears. Why does this happen?
Answer: This message may appear if you installed your version of ABBYY Lingvo x3 after a more complete version had been installed. For example, you may see this message, if ABBYY Lingvo x3 English Version was installed after ABBYY Lingvo x3 European Version. To solve the issue, do the following:
1) Start ABBYY Lingvo x3.
2) On the top menu, select Tools>Language and Dictionary Settings...
3) On the "My dictionaries" tab, select and delete dictionaries that are not included in the ABBYY Lingvo version that you installed.
4) Close the program (Translate>Exit).

Question: When I start ABBYY Lingvo x3, the message " The connection to the licensing service has been lost" appears. When I click "Cancel", the following error occurs: "ABBYY Licensing Service is unavailable…". How can I solve the issue?
Answer: Do the following:
1) Click Start>Settings>Control Panel>Administrative Tools>Computer Management.
2) In the "Computer Management" window, select the "Services and Applications" folder and then the "Services" folder.
3) Find the ABBYY Lingvo x3 Licensing Service in the list of services. Right-click it and select "Start" or "Restart" from the drop-down menu.

Question: When I start ABBYY Lingvo x3, the message "Cannot find font file C:\Program Files\ABBYY Lingvo x3\NewtonPhonetABBYY.ttf." appears. What should I do?
Answer: Do the following:
1) Open the "Fonts" folder on the ABBYY Lingvo x3 installation disk (or, if you have a downloadable version, open the folder where the program files were extracted (the default folder is C:\Temp\ABBYY Lingvo x3)).
2) Copy NewtonPhonetABBYY.ttf from this folder to C:\Windows\Fonts. If a message appears telling you the font already exists, agree to replace it.

Question: When I start ABBYY Lingvo x3, the following message appears:  "Lingvo.exe - Application error. This application failed to initialize properly (0x0000005). Click on OK to terminate the application". What should I do?

Question: Pop-up translation doesn't work in Mozilla Firefox 3. What should I do?
Answer: Please download and install the update.

Question: When I try to add an .xls dictionary file to ABBYY Lingvo Tutor, the message "Type mismatch..." appears. What should I do?
Answer: Do the following:
1) Open the .xls file.
2) Select all cells with text (Ctrl+A).
3) Right-click the selected cells and, in the drop-down menu, select "Format Cells...".
4) On the "Number" tab, select the "General" category instead of "Text", then click OK.
6) Save the changes made to the file (Ctrl+S).
7) Add the .xls dictionary file to ABBYY Lingvo Tutor.

Question: Why aren't new cards and statistics saved in ABBYY Lingvo Tutor?
Answer: For the changes to be saved in ABBYY Lingvo Tutor, you must exit the program before shutting down or restarting your PC. To exit ABBYY Lingvo Tutor, select Actions>Exit on PC or Dictionaries>Exit on mobile devices).

Question: When I start ABBYY Lingvo x3, the message "Cannot start the exercise. No ABBYY Lingvo Tutor dictionary selected." appears. What should I do?
Answer: Reinstall ABBYY Lingvo x3.

Question: In the new version of the program, why additional activation on workstations is required after I register the per-seat license on the server?
Answer: For installation of ABBYY Lingvo x3 with per-seat licenses, you must activate it on the license server (when you add a per-seat license) AND on workstations.
When you carry out activation on the workstation, the per-seat license becomes bound to it. If the license server is connected to the Internet during installation of ABBYY Lingvo x3 on the workstation, the license will be activated automatically. During the activation process,  ABBYY Lingvo x3 Licensing Service that works on the server, connects to registration2.abbyy.com using default Internet Explorer settings. If the company's security policy prohibits such access, you will have to activate ABBYY Lingvo x3 manually at first launch on workstations.

Question: How do I reinstall the license on a new computer if something happened to the workstation (for example, if the computer broke down)?
Answer: To install the license on a new computer, you must deactivate it.
To deactivate the license, do the following:
1) In the License Manager, right-click the desired license.
2) In the dialogue box, click "Deactivate".
3) Follow the Deactivation Wizard's instructions.

Question: How do I change the network connection settings?
Answer: By default, the client and server of ABBYY Lingvo x3 communicate using RPC via the Named Pipes protocol.
To change network connection parameters, create a file Licensing.ini on the ABBYY Lingvo license server (in the folder:  %programfiles%\Common Files\ABBYY\Lingvo\14.0\Licensing\). In this file, specify the desired connection protocol and port.
